The Bears turned the phones into found money: A-. The trade table was a mismatch, and the Bears were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher. The veteran additions, Ben Powers chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Bottom line, with Rome Odunze leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick9
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In the 9th overall pick they get a difference-maker at receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick18
Rnd1
JC Latham
JC Latham at No. 18 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The roster fit checks out.
Pick49
Rnd2
Calen Bullock
No edge and no loss on Calen Bullock in pick No. 49; it is a wash and a sensible one. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick75
Rnd3
Blake Corum
Blake Corum in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76
Rnd3
Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley in pick 76 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
