Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D
ValueC+ NeedB TradesF FutureA
The Cowboys bled value on every deal, hence the D.

The Chip Trayanum pick is the one that will follow the Cowboys into the fall. They took him 106 spots ahead of his grade, and the board is not shy about saying so. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

That is a quarterback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick14 Rnd1 Nic Scourton
In slot 14 they get a premier pass rusher. Need was not the driver here.
Pick26 Rnd1 Tacario Davis
In the 26th overall pick they get a sticky cover corner at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick42 Rnd2 Nic Anderson
Nic Anderson at the Round 2 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick46 Rnd2 Ajani Cornelius
They went early on Ajani Cornelius in Round 2, Pick 14, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick58 Rnd2 Danny Stutsman
They paid sticker price for Danny Stutsman in the 58th pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick62 Rnd2 Donovan Jackson
Donovan Jackson at No. 62 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick74 Rnd3 Drew Allar
Drew Allar in pick No. 74 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick90 Rnd3 Raheim Sanders
They jumped the gun on Raheim Sanders, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The roster fit checks out.
Pick91 Rnd3 Nazir Stackhouse
No drama and no debate, Nazir Stackhouse went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 27. It fills a real need, too.
Pick122 Rnd4 J. Michael Sturdivant
J. Michael Sturdivant at the Round 4 slot is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick154 Rnd5 Chip Trayanum
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Chip Trayanum well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
