Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D
ValueB NeedB TradesF FutureB
The Cowboys finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Cowboys did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. Put together, it is a D.

The whole projection now runs through Carson Beck; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Marshall Jr. has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.

Landing Walker that late papers over a lot of smaller sins.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick5 Rnd1 Carson Beck
In the 5th overall pick they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Pick30 Rnd1 Deone Walker
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the Round 1 slot is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick62 Rnd2 Tez Johnson
They paid sticker price for Tez Johnson in pick No. 62, and that is fine. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick68 Rnd3 Dani Dennis-Sutton
They let Dani Dennis-Sutton come to them and pounced at slot 68. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jamon Dumas-Johnson
No edge and no loss on Jamon Dumas-Johnson in pick 69; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick94 Rnd3 Jason Marshall Jr.
They paid a round early for Jason Marshall Jr. in Round 3, Pick 30, more than the board wanted. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick101 Rnd4 DJ Giddens
They paid up for DJ Giddens at No. 101 when waiting would have done the job. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick126 Rnd4 Noah Fifita
Noah Fifita slipping to the 126th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick158 Rnd5 Marques Cox
Fair-plus on Marques Cox, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick190 Rnd6 Bru McCoy
A slide stopped in the 190th overall pick, with Bru McCoy worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick222 Rnd7 Marcus Carroll
They took Marcus Carroll at par in slot 222, which is nothing to complain about. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
