Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB+ TradesF FutureB+
Quarterback settled, Maye in the fold, and a D for the Cowboys.

You can hear the double-takes from here. The Cowboys took Jaylon Hutchings at No. 244, roughly 109 spots before his name belonged. The process wobbled, and the D is where it lands.

The whole projection now runs through Drake Maye; hit there and everything else looks smarter. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.

They punted on tight end, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. On value alone, Johnson makes the weekend a net positive.

Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and tight end is still a hole.

Pick Analysis
Pick3 Rnd1 Drake Maye
In slot 3 they get their quarterback of the future at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick26 Rnd1 Tyler Guyton
They paid sticker price for Tyler Guyton in pick No. 26, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick56 Rnd2 Kamari Lassiter
Kamari Lassiter slid further than he should have, and the 56th overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick68 Rnd3 Jaylen Wright
Jaylen Wright in No. 68 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick87 Rnd3 Ja'Lynn Polk
Ja'Lynn Polk at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick89 Rnd3 Christian Mahogany
Christian Mahogany in the 89th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick174 Rnd5 Ty'Ron Hopper
No edge and no loss on Ty'Ron Hopper in pick 174; it is a wash and a sensible one. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick216 Rnd6 Cornelius Johnson
Cornelius Johnson in Round 6, Pick 41 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick233 Rnd7 Zion Logue
They reached a country mile for Zion Logue at the 233rd overall pick, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick244 Rnd7 Jaylon Hutchings
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jaylon Hutchings in No. 244, miles early. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
