Draft Grade — Cowboys

FutureD-
Daniels is the plan now, and the Cowboys grade out a F. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Cowboys did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Landing Hicks that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
In the end, a class that has to defy its grades just to matter.
Pick Analysis
Pick4
Rnd1
Brock Bowers
In the Round 1 slot they get a mismatch in the passing game. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In pick No. 9 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick35
Rnd2
Quinyon Mitchell
Quinyon Mitchell in Round 2, Pick 3 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick56
Rnd2
Kingsley Suamataia
No drama and no debate, Kingsley Suamataia went about where he belonged in No. 56. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick66
Rnd3
Jonathon Brooks
Jonathon Brooks in the 66th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick103
Rnd4
Jacob Cowing
A tidy little value on Jacob Cowing in pick 103, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick124
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
They let Jaden Hicks come to them and pounced at slot 124. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick174
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
No edge and no loss on Jaylan Ford in the 174th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick212
Rnd6
Jase McClellan
Jase McClellan at Round 6, Pick 37 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. The roster fit checks out.
Pick227
Rnd7
Trevor Keegan
A straight-up fair deal on Trevor Keegan at the 227th pick, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick245
Rnd7
Eric Gentry
A reasonable price with a little left over, Eric Gentry in slot 245. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
