Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall B-
ValueB NeedB TradesD FutureA
The Steelers lost the trade table, and the B- tells the story.

You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Steelers did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

They will need Payton to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The Corleone steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.

Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.

Pick Analysis
Pick53 Rnd2 Omar Cooper Jr.
A straight-up fair deal on Omar Cooper Jr. at slot 53, value and slot in agreement. It fills a real need, too.
Pick60 Rnd2 A.J. Haulcy
A tidy bit of business in Round 2, Pick 28, where A.J. Haulcy graded well above the range. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick76 Rnd3 Keionte Scott
Keionte Scott at the 76th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick85 Rnd3 Dontay Corleone
Value with a capital V on Dontay Corleone in the 85th overall pick, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick99 Rnd3 Treydan Stukes
Good price on Treydan Stukes in pick 99, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick121 Rnd4 Bryce Lance
Fair-plus on Bryce Lance, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick126 Rnd4 Billy Schrauth
By-the-book stuff, Billy Schrauth at pick No. 126 squarely in line with his ranking. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick135 Rnd4 Bud Clark
They let Bud Clark come to them and pounced at No. 135. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick159 Rnd5 Aamil Wagner
Aamil Wagner at No. 159 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick213 Rnd6 Cole Payton
A real head-scratcher, Cole Payton in the 213th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick214 Rnd6 Jeremiah Wright
They took Jeremiah Wright at par in Round 6, Pick 35, which is nothing to complain about. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Pick224 Rnd7 Zxavian Harris
A tidy little value on Zxavian Harris in slot 224, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
