Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueB- NeedB TradesC- FutureA
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Patriots a B-.

Nobody had Quincy Riley this high, and it is not close. The Patriots reached 40 spots to get him at the Round 5 slot. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B-.

That Brooks pick is the receipt they will wave around later. They will regret leaving safety for another day if the season turns on it.

Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Pick Analysis
Pick24 Rnd1 Josh Conerly Jr.
In pick 24 they get a cornerstone up front, reach and all. A real need, handled.
Pick38 Rnd2 Jalon Walker
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jalon Walker in No. 38. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick69 Rnd3 Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins slid further than he should have, and the 69th overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick77 Rnd3 Elijah Arroyo
Good price on Elijah Arroyo in the 77th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick106 Rnd4 Sai'vion Jones
Sai'vion Jones in pick No. 106 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick139 Rnd5 Quincy Riley
Quincy Riley at Round 5, Pick 1 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick144 Rnd5 Hollin Pierce
They did well to land Hollin Pierce in pick 144, just ahead of his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick217 Rnd7 Jay Higgins
A slide stopped in pick No. 217, with Jay Higgins worth more than the price. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Pick220 Rnd7 Tahj Brooks
Tahj Brooks at Round 7, Pick 4 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick238 Rnd7 Cam Jackson
Cam Jackson at the Round 7 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
