FutureC+
The Ravens bled value on every deal, hence the D-. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Ravens did exactly that with Taulia Tagovailoa in Round 6, Pick 14.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through running back. The Hart pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Cornerback was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick33
Rnd2
Kamari Lassiter
They did well to land Kamari Lassiter in the 33rd overall pick, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick36
Rnd2
Bralen Trice
They took Bralen Trice at par in slot 36, which is nothing to complain about. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick40
Rnd2
Keon Coleman
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Keon Coleman. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick65
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes in the 65th pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick93
Rnd3
Matt Goncalves
They paid a round early for Matt Goncalves in pick No. 93, more than the board wanted. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick102
Rnd4
Leonard Taylor III
Leonard Taylor III at Round 4, Pick 2 is a conviction pick that outran the value. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick117
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray at Round 4, Pick 17 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick120
Rnd4
DJ James
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 120 with a little surplus value in DJ James. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick134
Rnd4
Javon Foster
A reasonable price with a little left over, Javon Foster in No. 134. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick138
Rnd5
Luke McCaffrey
Luke McCaffrey in the Round 5 slot is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick160
Rnd5
Cam Hart
Steal is underselling it; Cam Hart at slot 160 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick165
Rnd5
Austin Booker
No edge and no loss on Austin Booker in the 165th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick178
Rnd6
Michael Barrett
A conviction pick on Michael Barrett at pick 178 that the board grades a round light. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Pick189
Rnd6
Taulia Tagovailoa
They left a pile of value on the table to take Taulia Tagovailoa this early at the 189th overall pick. It fills a real need, too.
Pick195
Rnd6
Christian Jones
They liked Christian Jones enough to skip the value, taking him in the 195th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
