Draft Grade — Commanders
Overall
A-
ValueB-
NeedB+
TradesA+
FutureA+
A masterclass at the trade table lands the Commanders a A-. The real work happened on the phones. The Commanders fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
The Sinnott pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Bullard at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Adding Devin Lloyd by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Bottom line, with Taliese Fuaga leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick Analysis
Pick17
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In slot 17 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
No drama and no debate, Xavier Legette went about where he belonged in Round 2, Pick 4. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick40
Rnd2
Chop Robinson
Fair-plus on Chop Robinson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It fills a real need, too.
Pick48
Rnd2
T.J. Tampa
T.J. Tampa in No. 48 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick67
Rnd3
Jeremiah Trotter Jr.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. in pick 67 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick79
Rnd3
Javon Bullard
Value with a capital V on Javon Bullard in the 79th pick, a genuine coup. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick100
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
Bucky Irving in the Round 3 slot lands just on the right side of the ledger. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick102
Rnd4
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at the 102nd overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick141
Rnd5
Ben Sinnott
They went early on Ben Sinnott in slot 141, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick181
Rnd6
Kaden Prather
Kaden Prather at Round 6, Pick 6 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick223
Rnd7
Omar Speights
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Omar Speights at the Round 7 slot is the proof. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
