Draft Grade — Patriots
Overall B-
ValueC+ NeedB TradesC FutureB
The Patriots let Fitzgerald fall and pounced. Final grade: B-.

You could see the war room lean forward. Ryan Fitzgerald at No. 219 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.

They will need Lundt to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The safety spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. A small leak at the table, if not a fatal one.

On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick12 Rnd1 Josh Simmons
In pick No. 12 they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick38 Rnd2 Elic Ayomanor
Elic Ayomanor at pick 38 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick44 Rnd2 Donovan Ezeiruaku
They reached a country mile for Donovan Ezeiruaku at slot 44, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick69 Rnd3 Deone Walker
They paid sticker price for Deone Walker in No. 69, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick77 Rnd3 Tate Ratledge
They took Tate Ratledge at par in the 77th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick105 Rnd4 Chase Lundt
A big swing on Chase Lundt at the 105th pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick145 Rnd5 Jake Majors
Jake Majors in the Round 5 slot is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick219 Rnd7 Ryan Fitzgerald
Somehow Ryan Fitzgerald was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 1, and they pounced on premier specialist value. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick222 Rnd7 Marcus Yarns
They paid up for Marcus Yarns at slot 222 when waiting would have done the job. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick240 Rnd7 Jackson Hawes
Good price on Jackson Hawes in Round 7, Pick 22, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It fills a real need, too.
Pick249 Rnd7 Gentry Williams
A real head-scratcher, Gentry Williams in pick 249 is miles ahead of his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
