FutureF
The 49ers bled value on every deal, hence the D. The 49ers torched the value chart for Sai'vion Jones, taking him 78 spots sooner than anyone had him slotted.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. Arroyo at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, running back very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick39
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Kenneth Grant at Round 2, Pick 7 is money in the bank, a interior defensive lineman taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick41
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
A top-tier safety at a bargain, Nick Emmanwori in the 41st overall pick, plain and simple. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick43
Rnd2
Tyleik Williams
Tyleik Williams at the Round 2 slot is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick72
Rnd3
Sai'vion Jones
Sai'vion Jones at pick No. 72 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick75
Rnd3
Jihaad Campbell
Circle this one: Jihaad Campbell at No. 75 is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick99
Rnd3
Jared Wilson
A reach for Jared Wilson in slot 99; a little patience would have been rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick112
Rnd4
Logan Brown
Value said wait; Logan Brown in pick 112 says they were not listening. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick138
Rnd4
Elijah Arroyo
Elijah Arroyo in No. 138 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick139
Rnd4
Cobee Bryant
They reached a country mile for Cobee Bryant at pick No. 139, and the board is aghast. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick189
Rnd6
Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa at Round 6, Pick 11 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick232
Rnd7
Jimmy Horn Jr.
They talked themselves into Jimmy Horn Jr. at slot 232, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
