Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
D

FutureB
The phones sank the Seahawks this weekend: D. Somebody took the Seahawks to the cleaners. The deals they made bled real value, and the whole class wears it.
They are betting Johnson proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Smith-Wade at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
The Seahawks clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. They went 8 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick Analysis
Pick53
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in pick No. 53 is fair value, right on his grade. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick62
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
They jumped the gun on Cooper Beebe, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick73
Rnd3
Payton Wilson
A tidy little value on Payton Wilson in No. 73, a step better than break-even. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick74
Rnd3
Maason Smith
A premium they did not need to pay, Maason Smith a notch or two before his time. The roster reasoning here is anyone's guess.
Pick78
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
A reach on Sedrick Van Pran in Round 3, Pick 14; the board had better options right there. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick81
Rnd3
Trey Benson
Value with a capital V on Trey Benson in slot 81, a genuine coup. The roster fit checks out.
Pick118
Rnd4
Jordan Travis
A conviction pick on Jordan Travis at the 118th pick that the board grades a round light. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick120
Rnd4
James Williams
They paid a round early for James Williams in pick 120, more than the board wanted. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick146
Rnd5
Cedric Johnson
They went early on Cedric Johnson in pick No. 146, and the value did not follow. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick167
Rnd5
LaDarius Henderson
They let LaDarius Henderson come to them and pounced at the 167th overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick173
Rnd5
Chau Smith-Wade
The board had Chau Smith-Wade higher than No. 173, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick194
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley in pick 194 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
Pick236
Rnd7
Jordan Johnson
They reached a country mile for Jordan Johnson at slot 236, and the board is aghast. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
