Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall D-
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The 49ers lost the trade table, and the D- tells the story.

You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The 49ers did exactly that with Aaron Lewis in the Round 7 slot. Hard to defend, and the D- reflects that.

The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want. Getting Baker where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Offensive lineman is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Laiatu Latu
They took Laiatu Latu at par in Round 1, Pick 6, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick47 Rnd2 Jackson Powers-Johnson
Jackson Powers-Johnson at the 47th pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick63 Rnd2 Kiran Amegadjie
They read the board right and Kiran Amegadjie was the payoff at the Round 2 slot. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick94 Rnd3 Josh Newton
Nice patience on Josh Newton, who had no business lasting to the 94th overall pick. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick98 Rnd3 Tyler Davis
Tyler Davis in No. 98 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick132 Rnd4 Tommy Eichenberg
Tommy Eichenberg in pick 132 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It fills a real need, too.
Pick176 Rnd6 Kitan Oladapo
A tidy bit of business in No. 176, where Kitan Oladapo graded well above the range. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick209 Rnd6 Javon Baker
Somehow Javon Baker was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 34, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick214 Rnd6 Jared Wiley
They did well to land Jared Wiley in pick No. 214, just ahead of his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick215 Rnd6 David Ugwoegbu
They left a pile of value on the table to take David Ugwoegbu this early at the Round 6 slot. This was not a hole anyone had circled.
Pick249 Rnd7 Aaron Lewis
Value said wait; Aaron Lewis in the 249th overall pick says they were not listening. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
