FutureA
The Chiefs lost the trade table, and the D tells the story. The trade table was where it all came apart. The Chiefs shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.
The cost of the Graves reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Lee III at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
Pick Analysis
Pick20
Rnd1
Arvell Reese
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a coverage-and-run second-level piece, outstanding value to boot. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick29
Rnd1
Kenyon Sadiq
In No. 29 they get a matchup weapon at tight end at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick40
Rnd2
LT Overton
LT Overton in pick 40 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
Pick74
Rnd3
Will Lee III
The board had Will Lee III higher than the 74th overall pick, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick83
Rnd3
Emmett Johnson
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Emmett Johnson. The roster fit checks out.
Pick109
Rnd4
Monroe Freeling
They paid sticker price for Monroe Freeling in slot 109, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick112
Rnd4
Xavier Scott
Fair-plus on Xavier Scott, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick119
Rnd4
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch in the Round 4 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick147
Rnd5
Aaron Graves
They paid a round early for Aaron Graves in pick 147, more than the board wanted. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick170
Rnd5
Chase Roberts
Chase Roberts slid further than he should have, and No. 170 is lovely value for the wide receiver. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick199
Rnd6
Jalon Daniels
By-the-book stuff, Jalon Daniels at the 199th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick235
Rnd7
London Humphreys
A reach on London Humphreys in the 235th pick; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
