The Patriots got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C-. They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Miles Frazier, 93 picks early at pick No. 150. A mixed bag that lands at C-.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. It is not that Dotson is a bad player; it is that the Patriots had louder needs to answer first.
The Mbow value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through safety.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Kenneth Grant
In pick No. 12 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick38
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
A tidy bit of business in slot 38, where Omarion Hampton graded well above the range. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick69
Rnd3
Marcus Mbow
They barely believed it either: Marcus Mbow still on the board at No. 69. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75
Rnd3
Azareye'h Thomas
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Azareye'h Thomas at the 75th overall pick. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick76
Rnd3
Dylan Fairchild
A wild overpay on Dylan Fairchild in the 76th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick81
Rnd3
Sai'vion Jones
Sai'vion Jones at the Round 3 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick99
Rnd3
Cam Skattebo
A straight-up fair deal on Cam Skattebo at pick 99, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick103
Rnd4
Tez Johnson
A quiet steal in No. 103: Tez Johnson for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick105
Rnd4
Mello Dotson
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Mello Dotson adds a cornerback and leaves safety, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Pick118
Rnd4
Raheim Sanders
This one needs a full-page explanation: Raheim Sanders in the 118th overall pick, miles early. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick150
Rnd5
Miles Frazier
Miles Frazier at Round 5, Pick 11 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick174
Rnd5
Chase Lundt
Chase Lundt in pick No. 174 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
