The Lions got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the C-. The Lions looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jalen Milroe at the 42nd pick regardless, 58 picks early. A weekend of give and take that grades a C-.
The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Wilson. The safety hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
Hit on Jihaad Campbell and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Jihaad Campbell
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get the heartbeat of the defense, even if it was a touch early. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick42
Rnd2
Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe at pick No. 42 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick60
Rnd2
Jared Ivey
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jared Ivey. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick133
Rnd4
Jared Wilson
Jared Wilson in the Round 4 slot is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick198
Rnd6
Chimere Dike
They paid sticker price for Chimere Dike in pick 198, and that is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick230
Rnd7
Brandon Adams
They paid up for Brandon Adams at the 230th pick when waiting would have done the job. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick246
Rnd7
Tonka Hemingway
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Tonka Hemingway. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
