Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D
ValueB- NeedB TradesF FutureA+
The Cowboys won the night they stopped Hadden from sliding. Grade: D.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Kamal Hadden, the No. 167 name on the board, should have been long gone before slot 233. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.

If Whittington pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong.

The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick20 Rnd1 JC Latham
In Round 1, Pick 20 they get a building block for the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick23 Rnd1 Jackson Powers-Johnson
In pick No. 23 they get a blindside protector, reach and all. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick24 Rnd1 Tyler Guyton
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Guyton at the 24th pick, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick29 Rnd1 T'Vondre Sweat
In slot 29 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher, even if it was a touch early.
Pick40 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper in the Round 2 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick56 Rnd2 Devontez Walker
Devontez Walker at the 56th overall pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick87 Rnd3 Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine in pick 87 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick100 Rnd3 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at No. 100 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick129 Rnd4 Will Shipley
Will Shipley in pick 129 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It fills a real need, too.
Pick164 Rnd5 Walter Rouse
Walter Rouse in pick No. 164 is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick174 Rnd5 Cody Schrader
Cody Schrader in Round 5, Pick 38 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick216 Rnd6 Jordan Whittington
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jordan Whittington in the 216th overall pick, miles early. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick233 Rnd7 Kamal Hadden
Circle this one: Kamal Hadden at the Round 7 slot is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick244 Rnd7 Kalen DeLoach
Kalen DeLoach at slot 244 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick249 Rnd7 Steele Chambers
A top-tier linebacker at a bargain, Steele Chambers in the 249th pick, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
