FutureC
The Bears finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a B. The search is over. The Bears handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
They will need Nugent to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
They will answer for taking tight end early while interior defensive lineman and linebacker went begging. Thomas Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
Drake Maye
In pick No. 2 they get the arm they will build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick14
Rnd1
Jared Verse
In the Round 1 slot they get a problem off the edge at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick36
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
Brian Thomas Jr. at slot 36 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick59
Rnd2
Devontez Walker
They took Devontez Walker at par in pick 59, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick67
Rnd3
Xavier Legette
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Xavier Legette. It fills a real need, too.
Pick75
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
They jumped the gun on Khyree Jackson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick84
Rnd3
Cam Hart
A premium they did not need to pay, Cam Hart a notch or two before his time. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick86
Rnd3
Isaac Guerendo
A wild overpay on Isaac Guerendo in the 86th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick111
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
They reached a country mile for Theo Johnson at pick No. 111, and the board is aghast. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick123
Rnd4
Johnny Wilson
By-the-book stuff, Johnny Wilson at slot 123 squarely in line with his ranking. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick124
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
A curious use of the 124th pick. Interior defensive lineman and linebacker needed the pick; a tight end in Ben Sinnott did not.
Pick143
Rnd5
Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan at No. 143 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick149
Rnd5
Drake Nugent
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Drake Nugent well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick207
Rnd6
LaDarius Henderson
LaDarius Henderson at Round 6, Pick 32 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The roster fit checks out.
