Draft Grade — Bears
Overall A-
ValueB NeedB TradesA+ FutureA+
The Bears drew a line under the quarterback search with Nix: A-.

The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Bears watched Zy Alexander slide 63 picks past his grade and did not hesitate.

They have staked the next five years on Bo Nix, which is the only story that really matters here. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend.

The Bears indulged a want in Smith while a need in linebacker stayed open. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up.

Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.

Pick Analysis
Pick10 Rnd1 Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In pick No. 10 they get protection for the quarterback. A real need, handled.
Pick12 Rnd1 Chop Robinson
In pick 12 they get a premier pass rusher at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick17 Rnd1 Bo Nix
In pick 17 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick53 Rnd2 Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe in the Round 2 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick69 Rnd3 Maason Smith
Of all the spots to shop, they chose DT-EDGE. Maason Smith in the 69th overall pick leaves linebacker for later.
Pick73 Rnd3 Cooper DeJean
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Cooper DeJean in Round 3, Pick 9. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick76 Rnd3 Kamren Kinchens
Kamren Kinchens in No. 76 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick81 Rnd3 Caelen Carson
A tidy little value on Caelen Carson in slot 81, a step better than break-even. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick85 Rnd3 Christian Haynes
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Christian Haynes. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick105 Rnd4 McKinnley Jackson
Taking McKinnley Jackson in pick No. 105 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick128 Rnd4 Brenden Rice
They let Brenden Rice come to them and pounced at the Round 4 slot. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick140 Rnd5 Sataoa Laumea
A straight-up fair deal on Sataoa Laumea at slot 140, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Pick142 Rnd5 Ray Davis
Ray Davis at pick 142 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick183 Rnd6 Ainias Smith
Circle this one: Ainias Smith at pick No. 183 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick226 Rnd7 Zy Alexander
They barely believed it either: Zy Alexander still on the board at the 226th overall pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick231 Rnd7 Brevyn Spann-Ford
Brevyn Spann-Ford at the 231st pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A minor itch, scratched.
