Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall

TradesA+
FutureA+
The Cardinals cashed the board's mistake on Jones: A-. You build a draft on nights like this. Jarrian Jones had no business being available in the 162nd pick, and the Cardinals did the only sane thing and turned in the card. The sum of the weekend is a deserved A-.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. If Chambers pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The Kinchens pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Jer'Zhan Newton and all.
Pick Analysis
Pick15
Rnd1
Laiatu Latu
In pick No. 15 they get a bendy edge with upside. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick26
Rnd1
Jer'Zhan Newton
In the 26th pick they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher at a price that makes it sweeter. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick27
Rnd1
Jackson Powers-Johnson
In the 27th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick48
Rnd2
Ricky Pearsall
Nothing to complain about; Ricky Pearsall went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick49
Rnd2
Kris Jenkins
They paid sticker price for Kris Jenkins in No. 49, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick51
Rnd2
Xavier Legette
By-the-book stuff, Xavier Legette at pick 51 squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick66
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
A straight-up fair deal on Cooper Beebe at Round 3, Pick 2, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick71
Rnd3
Renardo Green
Renardo Green in slot 71 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick87
Rnd3
Kamren Kinchens
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending slot 87 on Kamren Kinchens with quarterback unsolved.
Pick90
Rnd3
Cade Stover
Cade Stover at the 90th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick91
Rnd3
Ray Davis
They took Ray Davis at par in Round 3, Pick 28, which is nothing to complain about. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick92
Rnd3
Brandon Coleman
A premium they did not need to pay, Brandon Coleman a notch or two before his time. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick97
Rnd3
Mohamed Kamara
They jumped the gun on Mohamed Kamara, taking him earlier than his grade liked. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick98
Rnd3
Zak Zinter
A reach on Zak Zinter in the 98th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick104
Rnd4
Jarvis Brownlee Jr.
Jarvis Brownlee Jr. at pick 104 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick114
Rnd4
Javon Solomon
A surprising call. With quarterback still to address, they spent the Round 4 slot on Javon Solomon, an OLB-EDGE they were not short of.
Pick115
Rnd4
Erick All
Erick All at pick 115 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick125
Rnd4
Jamari Thrash
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Jamari Thrash. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick129
Rnd4
Matt Goncalves
Matt Goncalves at pick No. 129 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick138
Rnd5
Brennan Jackson
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Brennan Jackson at the Round 5 slot is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick162
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
Taking Jarrian Jones in the 162nd pick is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Pick166
Rnd5
Walter Rouse
No edge and no loss on Walter Rouse in the 166th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick169
Rnd5
Cornelius Johnson
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cornelius Johnson at Round 5, Pick 33. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick174
Rnd5
Dwight McGlothern
They paid a round early for Dwight McGlothern in No. 174, more than the board wanted. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
Pick178
Rnd6
Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan in No. 178 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick186
Rnd6
Nathaniel Watson
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nathaniel Watson well ahead of where he belonged. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick197
Rnd6
Steele Chambers
They reached into another round for Steele Chambers, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick219
Rnd6
Cody Schrader
Cody Schrader in pick No. 219 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick220
Rnd6
Bub Means
Bub Means in the Round 6 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick226
Rnd7
JD Bertrand
A tidy little value on JD Bertrand in the 226th pick, a step better than break-even. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick233
Rnd7
Michael Barrett
They talked themselves into Michael Barrett at pick 233, and the board did not agree. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick234
Rnd7
Jalen Coker
The board fumbled Jalen Coker all the way to slot 234, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick244
Rnd7
Trey Taylor
They read the board right and Trey Taylor was the payoff at No. 244. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
