The 49ers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B. You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The 49ers did exactly that with Logan Jones in the 101st pick. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They will regret leaving running back for another day if the season turns on it. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with offensive lineman the one that mattered most. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick Analysis
Pick27
Rnd1
Sonny Styles
In Round 1, Pick 27 they get a three-down second-level presence at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick58
Rnd2
Gennings Dunker
Gennings Dunker in pick No. 58 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick74
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
No drama and no debate, Omar Cooper Jr. went about where he belonged in the 74th pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick92
Rnd3
Darrell Jackson Jr.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Darrell Jackson Jr.. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick101
Rnd4
Logan Jones
They reached a country mile for Logan Jones at pick 101, and the board is aghast. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
