Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall D+
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureA+
Quarterback settled, Daniels in the fold, and a D+ for the Cowboys.

The phones were a trap the Cowboys kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. Put together, it is a D+.

Jayden Daniels gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The Keegan reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

They will regret leaving tight end for another day if the season turns on it. They banked enough surplus on McClellan to cover a lot of smaller sins.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick Analysis
Pick11 Rnd1 Jayden Daniels
In slot 11 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick24 Rnd1 Brian Thomas Jr.
In the Round 1 slot they get a difference-maker at receiver. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick34 Rnd2 Jordan Morgan
No edge and no loss on Jordan Morgan in pick 34; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick42 Rnd2 Edgerrin Cooper
Edgerrin Cooper in the 42nd pick is fair value, right on his grade. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick49 Rnd2 T'Vondre Sweat
By-the-book stuff, T'Vondre Sweat at Round 2, Pick 17 squarely in line with his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick56 Rnd2 Kamari Lassiter
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Kamari Lassiter in the 56th overall pick. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick59 Rnd2 Kingsley Suamataia
Kingsley Suamataia in pick No. 59 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick68 Rnd3 Javon Bullard
Nothing to complain about; Javon Bullard went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Pick104 Rnd4 Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice in the Round 4 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick116 Rnd4 Cedric Gray
A reach on Cedric Gray in pick 116; the board had better options right there. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick136 Rnd4 Trevor Keegan
Trevor Keegan at pick No. 136 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick173 Rnd5 Kamal Hadden
Kamal Hadden in No. 173 lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick213 Rnd6 Jase McClellan
A running back of that caliber at the 213th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick231 Rnd7 Keaton Bills
No drama and no debate, Keaton Bills went about where he belonged in the 231st pick. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick235 Rnd7 Sheridan Jones
They did well to land Sheridan Jones in slot 235, just ahead of his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick242 Rnd7 KT Leveston
Good price on KT Leveston in Round 7, Pick 22, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
