Draft Grade — Broncos
Overall

FutureB+
The Broncos fleeced the room on the phones and earned a B+. Whoever sat across the table from the Broncos should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend.
With quarterback unsolved, spending premium capital on cornerback is the choice that costs them. They will need Guerendo to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The Newton pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick Analysis
Pick40
Rnd2
Brian Thomas Jr.
They read the board right and Brian Thomas Jr. was the payoff at pick No. 40. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick57
Rnd2
Chris Braswell
Chris Braswell is a better player than the Round 2 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick76
Rnd3
Kiran Amegadjie
Kiran Amegadjie at slot 76 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
Pick85
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
A reach on Brenden Rice in Round 3, Pick 22; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick93
Rnd3
Khyree Jackson
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Khyree Jackson. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick94
Rnd3
Maason Smith
They paid a round early for Maason Smith in the 94th overall pick, more than the board wanted. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick101
Rnd4
Cedric Gray
Cedric Gray in pick 101 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick103
Rnd4
Isaac Guerendo
Isaac Guerendo at No. 103 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick104
Rnd4
Javon Baker
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 104, where Javon Baker graded well above the range. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick120
Rnd4
Javon Foster
No edge and no loss on Javon Foster in slot 120; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick121
Rnd4
Theo Johnson
Theo Johnson in the 121st pick is fair value, right on his grade. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick136
Rnd4
Josh Newton
They bypassed pressing needs at quarterback to take Josh Newton, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick138
Rnd5
Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson at Round 5, Pick 2 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
Pick143
Rnd5
Justin Eboigbe
No drama and no debate, Justin Eboigbe went about where he belonged in the Round 5 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick147
Rnd5
Mason McCormick
A straight-up fair deal on Mason McCormick at the 147th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick156
Rnd5
Marist Liufau
They went early on Marist Liufau in No. 156, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick162
Rnd5
Sione Vaki
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 162 with a little surplus value in Sione Vaki. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick187
Rnd6
Fabien Lovett
Fabien Lovett at No. 187 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick197
Rnd6
Jared Wiley
Jared Wiley in slot 197 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick203
Rnd6
Javontae Jean-Baptiste
They jumped the gun on Javontae Jean-Baptiste, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick246
Rnd7
Emani Bailey
Emani Bailey at the 246th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
