FutureB-
A sensible, unshowy class lands the Chiefs a B. Nobody had Brian Ugwu this high, and it is not close. The Chiefs reached 29 spots to get him at the Round 6 slot. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
With quarterback and interior defensive lineman unsolved, spending premium capital on DT-EDGE is the choice that costs them. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
That Hatten pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Troy Franklin
In No. 31 they get a difference-maker at receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick69
Rnd3
Maason Smith
A surprising call. With quarterback and interior defensive lineman still to address, they spent slot 69 on Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE they were not short of.
Pick94
Rnd3
Audric Estime
Audric Estime at the 94th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick105
Rnd4
Troy Fautanu
Troy Fautanu in pick No. 105 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick131
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at the 131st pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick163
Rnd5
Zion Tupuola-Fetui
Zion Tupuola-Fetui in pick 163 is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick171
Rnd5
Steve Linton
Steve Linton in pick 171 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick175
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
A conviction pick on Jaylan Ford at No. 175 that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick209
Rnd6
Brian Ugwu
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Brian Ugwu well ahead of where he belonged. The roster fit checks out.
Pick252
Rnd7
Hayden Hatten
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Hayden Hatten in the 252nd overall pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
