Draft Grade — Texans
Overall D-
ValueB NeedB+ TradesF FutureC
The Texans got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D-.

Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Texans spent Round 5, Pick 24 on T.J. Sanders, a name most had 62 spots down the list. Too much went sideways, and the D- is the honest tally.

They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.

Getting Carter where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.

Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.

Pick Analysis
Pick32 Rnd1 Landon Jackson
In slot 32 they get a bendy edge with upside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick61 Rnd2 Barrett Carter
They robbed the room for Barrett Carter here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick62 Rnd2 Deone Walker
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Deone Walker in No. 62, plain and simple. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick64 Rnd2 Ollie Gordon II
Ollie Gordon II at pick No. 64 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick93 Rnd3 Kevin Winston Jr.
Kevin Winston Jr. at the 93rd pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick94 Rnd3 Shavon Revel Jr.
Shavon Revel Jr. at Round 3, Pick 30 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick96 Rnd3 Parker Brailsford
Parker Brailsford in pick No. 96 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick130 Rnd4 Elic Ayomanor
No drama and no debate, Elic Ayomanor went about where he belonged in the 130th overall pick. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick162 Rnd5 T.J. Sanders
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for T.J. Sanders. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick243 Rnd7 Taylen Green
Taylen Green at the Round 7 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
