Grand theft in the 66th pick: the Titans steal Echoles and grade out a B+. Thirty-one other rooms let Will Echoles slide, and the Titans were the ones holding the card at the 66th pick. Highway robbery. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
The cost of the Shelby reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The dealing alone would carry a lesser class.
The Titans clearly valued win-now help, adding bodies who have done it before. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Colin Simmons
They paid sticker price for Colin Simmons in Round 1, Pick 1, and that is fine. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick53
Rnd2
Jadan Baugh
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jadan Baugh in slot 53. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick66
Rnd3
Will Echoles
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 66 is the definition of value, full stop. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick103
Rnd4
Melvin Siani
They took Melvin Siani at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick112
Rnd4
Tyrique Tucker
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tyrique Tucker well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick126
Rnd4
Ian Strong
By-the-book stuff, Ian Strong at the 126th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It fills a real need, too.
Pick132
Rnd4
Luke Montgomery
Somehow Luke Montgomery was still sitting there in No. 132, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick140
Rnd5
Luke Reynolds
Luke Reynolds in the 140th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick146
Rnd5
Anthony Boswell
Value with a capital V on Anthony Boswell in pick 146, a genuine coup. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick182
Rnd6
CJ Bailey
CJ Bailey at the Round 6 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick222
Rnd7
Edwin Spillman
Edwin Spillman in the 222nd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick242
Rnd7
Braylan Shelby
A wild overpay on Braylan Shelby in No. 242, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
