Draft Grade — Titans
Overall
C+
ValueB-
NeedB
TradesD
FutureB-
The phones sank the Titans this weekend: C+. When the story of this class is written, it opens with Jay Higgins at slot 123, a reach of 32 spots that the board flatly disagrees with. The good and the questionable cancel out to a C+.
They lost the exchange badly enough to drag the whole class down. The Moore value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Offensive lineman was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
If Luther Burden III and a couple of the gambles land, hindsight will be kinder than this grade.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Luther Burden III
In pick No. 5 they get a difference-maker at receiver. A real need, handled.
Pick37
Rnd2
Xavier Nwankpa
Xavier Nwankpa at Round 2, Pick 5 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick101
Rnd4
Jason Marshall Jr.
Jason Marshall Jr. at the Round 4 slot is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick123
Rnd4
Jay Higgins
They reached into another round for Jay Higgins, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick133
Rnd5
Malachi Moore
Malachi Moore in pick 133 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick165
Rnd6
Jaeden Roberts
Jaeden Roberts is a better player than slot 165 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick187
Rnd6
Fentrell Cypress II
No edge and no loss on Fentrell Cypress II in No. 187; it is a wash and a sensible one. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Pick197
Rnd7
Noah Thomas
Noah Thomas at the 197th pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
