Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
B-
ValueC
NeedB+
TradesB-
FutureB-
Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Chiefs. The Chiefs clearly saw something nobody else did in Jared Wiley, taking him 119 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. Call it a sensible B-, earned the boring way.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. They banked enough surplus on Clark to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Amarius Mims
In the 28th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at a price that makes it sweeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick60
Rnd2
Brenden Rice
Brenden Rice at the Round 2 slot is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick91
Rnd3
Bucky Irving
They paid sticker price for Bucky Irving in No. 91, and that is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick128
Rnd4
Khyree Jackson
They read the board right and Khyree Jackson was the payoff at Round 4, Pick 28. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick161
Rnd5
AJ Barner
A big swing on AJ Barner at slot 161, well ahead of any board in the building. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick171
Rnd5
Jared Wiley
Value said wait; Jared Wiley in pick 171 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick175
Rnd5
Justin Eboigbe
Justin Eboigbe in pick 175 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick206
Rnd6
De'Corian Clark
De'Corian Clark at No. 206 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick249
Rnd7
Joshua Cephus
Joshua Cephus in slot 249 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
