FutureB
A solid, sensible weekend for the Seahawks: B-. The Seahawks bet big and early on Vincent Anthony Jr., 84 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up. On value alone, Cooper Jr. makes the weekend a net positive.
Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Good work on the whole, with linebacker the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick40
Rnd2
Olaivavega Ioane
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Olaivavega Ioane. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick67
Rnd3
Nicholas Singleton
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Nicholas Singleton well ahead of where he belonged. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick96
Rnd3
Omar Cooper Jr.
The board had Omar Cooper Jr. higher than No. 96, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick109
Rnd4
Domani Jackson
A reach on Domani Jackson in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick118
Rnd4
Vincent Anthony Jr.
Vincent Anthony Jr. at the 118th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick213
Rnd6
Bryce Foster
They reached into another round for Bryce Foster, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick219
Rnd7
Jack Velling
Jack Velling at pick 219 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
