FutureD-
The Saints got the worse of every deal, and it shows in the D. The Saints bet big and early on Kalil Alexander, 40 picks ahead of the board. Bold does not always mean right. The math is unkind, and the D follows.
They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back. The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Stewart at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, tight end very much included.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Malik Muhammad
In the 5th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside, though they paid up to get him. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick12
Rnd1
Jeremiyah Love
In No. 12 they get a bell-cow for the offense at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick37
Rnd2
Cayden Green
They took Cayden Green at par in Round 2, Pick 5, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick74
Rnd3
Tim Keenan III
A quiet steal in the 74th pick: Tim Keenan III for less than the market said. The roster fit checks out.
Pick105
Rnd4
Kalil Alexander
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Kalil Alexander well ahead of where he belonged. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick138
Rnd4
Rod Moore
Rod Moore at the Round 4 slot is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick144
Rnd5
Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick183
Rnd6
Jalon Daniels
Nice patience on Jalon Daniels, who had no business lasting to slot 183. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
