Larceny in pick No. 170 lands the Cowboys a B, Judkins and all. Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Quinshon Judkins, the No. 70 name on the board, should have been long gone before the 170th pick.
The cost of the Lampkin reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That cornerback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick12
Rnd1
Ashton Jeanty
Nice patience on Ashton Jeanty, who had no business lasting to the Round 1 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick44
Rnd2
Tyler Warren
A top-tier tight end at a bargain, Tyler Warren in Round 2, Pick 12, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
Pick76
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins at slot 76 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick150
Rnd5
Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger in the 150th overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick151
Rnd5
Willie Lampkin
They left a pile of value on the table to take Willie Lampkin this early at the 151st pick. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick170
Rnd5
Quinshon Judkins
The board fumbled Quinshon Judkins all the way to pick 170, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick172
Rnd5
Barrett Carter
Barrett Carter at pick No. 172 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick174
Rnd5
Darius Alexander
Circle this one: Darius Alexander at No. 174 is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick175
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
They went early on JJ Pegues in the 175th overall pick, and the value did not follow. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
