FutureB
The Bears bet the future on Daniels. The board says B+. After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Bears committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B+.
Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. That Puni pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
For all the activity, linebacker went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Budda Baker pickup adds a known quantity to a class of unknowns.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but linebacker.
Pick Analysis
Pick5
Rnd1
Jayden Daniels
In Round 1, Pick 5 they get the face of the franchise. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick9
Rnd1
Olumuyiwa Fashanu
In pick 9 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick27
Rnd1
Adonai Mitchell
In No. 27 they get a home-run threat at receiver.
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In the 28th pick they get a matchup problem out wide. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Ennis Rakestraw Jr.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at the 35th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick66
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
By-the-book stuff, Christian Haynes at slot 66 squarely in line with his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
Pick69
Rnd3
Austin Booker
A conviction pick on Austin Booker at pick No. 69 that the board grades a round light. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick75
Rnd3
Michael Hall Jr.
Michael Hall Jr. at the Round 3 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick76
Rnd3
Trey Benson
They went early on Trey Benson in slot 76, and the value did not follow. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick105
Rnd4
Dominick Puni
A tidy bit of business in the 105th pick, where Dominick Puni graded well above the range. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick122
Rnd4
Mekhi Wingo
Mekhi Wingo at No. 122 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
