Draft Grade — Bills
Overall B
ValueB+ NeedB TradesB- FutureB-
The Bills let Winston Jr. fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Kevin Winston Jr. got past him. The Bills do not have to explain a thing at slot 175.

They will need McLeod to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up.

The Hairston pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at linebacker, quarterback and other spots. The roster is better shaped than it was, with offensive lineman chief among the fixes.

Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.

Pick Analysis
Pick30 Rnd1 Kenneth Grant
In pick No. 30 they get an anchor for the defensive front at a price that makes it sweeter. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick56 Rnd2 Benjamin Morrison
Benjamin Morrison slid further than he should have, and the 56th overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick62 Rnd2 Maxwell Hairston
They bypassed pressing needs at linebacker, quarterback and other spots to take Maxwell Hairston, a cornerback that was not the priority.
Pick108 Rnd4 Xavier Watts
Xavier Watts at No. 108 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick131 Rnd4 Jalen McLeod
Value said wait; Jalen McLeod in the 131st pick says they were not listening. It fills a real need, too.
Pick171 Rnd5 Jaylin Noel
Somehow Jaylin Noel was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick175 Rnd5 Kevin Winston Jr.
Circle this one: Kevin Winston Jr. at Round 5, Pick 36 is a fall that decides a draft. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Pick179 Rnd6 Jake Majors
They will replay Jake Majors at pick 179 for years; that is how good the value is. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick206 Rnd6 Dont'e Thornton Jr.
They robbed the room for Dont'e Thornton Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick208 Rnd6 Cobee Bryant
Cobee Bryant at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
