Draft Grade — Jaguars
Overall B
ValueC NeedB TradesA+ FutureB-
The Jaguars worked the phones like thieves and earned a B.

There is conviction, and then there is this. The Jaguars took DJ Vonnahme a full 39 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Good, not great, and the B says as much.

Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. That is a linebacker worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

On the needs board they went 9 of 9, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.

In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.

Pick Analysis
Pick71 Rnd3 Ben Roberts
Ben Roberts at the Round 3 slot is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick86 Rnd3 Ashton Hampton
A wild overpay on Ashton Hampton in No. 86, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick88 Rnd3 Cooper Barkate
Cooper Barkate at Round 3, Pick 24 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick100 Rnd3 Zach Lutmer
They went early on Zach Lutmer in pick No. 100, and the value did not follow. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick123 Rnd4 Jayden Jackson
Fair-plus on Jayden Jackson, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick124 Rnd4 Elijah Paige
They reached a country mile for Elijah Paige at the 124th overall pick, and the board is aghast. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick126 Rnd4 Koi Perich
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Koi Perich. The roster fit checks out.
Pick145 Rnd5 Braelin Moore
They paid sticker price for Braelin Moore in No. 145, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick155 Rnd5 Jacob Ponton
Jacob Ponton at the 155th overall pick jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick162 Rnd5 Eric Singleton Jr.
Eric Singleton Jr. at pick 162 is a conviction pick that outran the value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick164 Rnd5 Gunner Stockton
Value said wait; Gunner Stockton in pick No. 164 says they were not listening. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick171 Rnd5 C.J. Fite
The board had cheaper options than C.J. Fite at the 171st pick, and it noticed. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick196 Rnd6 Austin Romaine
This one needs a full-page explanation: Austin Romaine in slot 196, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick220 Rnd7 DJ Vonnahme
A big swing on DJ Vonnahme at Round 7, Pick 4, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick233 Rnd7 DeSean Bishop
A real head-scratcher, DeSean Bishop in the 233rd pick is miles ahead of his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick239 Rnd7 Monroe Mills
Monroe Mills at pick 239 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick241 Rnd7 Evan Stewart
Evan Stewart in pick No. 241 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick243 Rnd7 Xavier Scott
They left a pile of value on the table to take Xavier Scott this early at No. 243. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick244 Rnd7 Shamar Porter
Shamar Porter in Round 7, Pick 28 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick245 Rnd7 Addison Nichols
A tidy bit of business in slot 245, where Addison Nichols graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
