FutureF
A franchise passer in Williams headlines a F weekend for the Bears. The Bears did not so much draft Dylan Laube as overpay for him, 30 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. There is no dressing it up: a F.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. Caleb Williams gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They banked enough surplus on James to cover a lot of smaller sins.
The bill for those future picks comes due whether the class hits or not.
In the end, a class that has to defy its grades just to matter.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
In pick 1 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value.
Pick2
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In the 2nd pick they get a No. 1 receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick16
Rnd1
Taliese Fuaga
In Round 1, Pick 16 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A real need, handled.
Pick104
Rnd4
DJ James
A tidy bit of business in No. 104, where DJ James graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick121
Rnd4
Dylan Laube
Value said wait; Dylan Laube in pick No. 121 says they were not listening. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
