Draft Grade — Cowboys
Overall

FutureB-
The Cowboys bled value on every deal, hence the D. The phones were a trap the Cowboys kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal.
The cost of the Hanson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. However the rest shakes out, Greenfield at that price is a win they earned.
The veteran additions, Justin Fields chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and quarterback is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick3
Rnd1
Marvin Harrison Jr.
In No. 3 they get a difference-maker at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick20
Rnd1
Dallas Turner
In slot 20 they get juice off the edge at fair value. Need was not the driver here.
Pick24
Rnd1
Troy Fautanu
In the Round 1 slot they get a long-term starter on the line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick51
Rnd2
T'Vondre Sweat
T'Vondre Sweat in the 51st overall pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick56
Rnd2
Cooper Beebe
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Cooper Beebe at pick No. 56. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick84
Rnd3
Kris Abrams-Draine
Kris Abrams-Draine at Round 3, Pick 20 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the cornerback. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick87
Rnd3
Trey Benson
Trey Benson at pick 87 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick174
Rnd5
Layden Robinson
Layden Robinson in the 174th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick216
Rnd6
Jaylan Ford
Jaylan Ford slid further than he should have, and the Round 6 slot is lovely value for the linebacker. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick233
Rnd7
Garret Greenfield
A quiet steal in the 233rd overall pick: Garret Greenfield for less than the market said. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick244
Rnd7
C.J. Hanson
C.J. Hanson at slot 244 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
