The Jaguars land in the muddy middle: C+. There was a run on nobody at that position, and the Jaguars started one anyway for Graham Mertz, 125 picks ahead of schedule.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Skattebo. A whole weekend of picks and linebacker is somehow still a want. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Bottom line, the swing picks will decide whether this ages well.
Pick Analysis
Pick14
Rnd1
Nick Emmanwori
In Round 1, Pick 14 they get a rangy last line of defense at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick36
Rnd2
Emeka Egbuka
Emeka Egbuka at No. 36 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick70
Rnd3
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in slot 70 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick80
Rnd3
Zy Alexander
Zy Alexander at pick No. 80 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick88
Rnd3
Connor Colby
Connor Colby at the 88th pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick106
Rnd4
Hayden Conner
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Hayden Conner. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick125
Rnd4
Oronde Gadsden II
Oronde Gadsden II in pick 125 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
Pick143
Rnd5
Cam Skattebo
Cam Skattebo in slot 143 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick152
Rnd5
JJ Pegues
They reached into another round for JJ Pegues, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick184
Rnd6
Dayon Hayes
Value said wait; Dayon Hayes in the 184th pick says they were not listening. A minor itch, scratched.
Pick196
Rnd6
Jason Marshall Jr.
They read the board right and Jason Marshall Jr. was the payoff at No. 196. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick223
Rnd7
Graham Mertz
They talked themselves into Graham Mertz at Round 7, Pick 5, and the board did not agree. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
