Draft Grade — Seahawks
Overall
D-
ValueB
NeedB
TradesF
FutureC
The Seahawks robbed the room for Emmanwori. Final grade: D-. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Seahawks, and the value they bled adds up to real damage. The process wobbled, and the D- is where it lands.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. The Higgins pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. They banked enough surplus on Emmanwori to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even.
Pick Analysis
Pick18
Rnd1
Tetairoa McMillan
In the 18th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick29
Rnd1
Grey Zabel
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Grey Zabel. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick39
Rnd2
Jayden Higgins
Jayden Higgins in Round 2, Pick 7 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Nick Emmanwori
Taking Nick Emmanwori in pick No. 41 is close to grand larceny; a safety that good had no business lasting this long. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick82
Rnd3
Ozzy Trapilo
No drama and no debate, Ozzy Trapilo went about where he belonged in No. 82. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick92
Rnd3
Jalen Milroe
Jalen Milroe in the 92nd pick is fair value, right on his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick137
Rnd4
Dillon Gabriel
Value with a capital V on Dillon Gabriel in pick 137, a genuine coup. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick172
Rnd5
Dont'e Thornton Jr.
The board had cheaper options than Dont'e Thornton Jr. at the Round 5 slot, and it noticed. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick175
Rnd5
Connor Colby
A conviction pick on Connor Colby at slot 175 that the board grades a round light. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick223
Rnd7
Thomas Fidone II
A quiet steal in Round 7, Pick 7: Thomas Fidone II for less than the market said. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick234
Rnd7
R.J. Mickens
R.J. Mickens slid further than he should have, and No. 234 is lovely value for the safety. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
