There is conviction, and then there is this. The Bears took Luke McCaffrey a full 45 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. Put together, it is a D-.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. Whatever Caleb Williams becomes, the front office has tied its fortunes to the answer. For all the activity, interior defensive lineman went untouched, which is hard to explain.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.
