FutureB-
Jones should have been long gone. The Bills pounced, and earned a D. You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Bills did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
Reaching for Johnson left real value on the table behind him. They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The Jones pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged. On the needs board they went 5 of 9, with linebacker the one that mattered most.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick Analysis
Pick28
Rnd1
Brian Thomas Jr.
In the 28th overall pick they get a matchup problem out wide. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick60
Rnd2
Zach Frazier
No edge and no loss on Zach Frazier in slot 60; it is a wash and a sensible one. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick74
Rnd3
Jaylen Wright
A tidy little value on Jaylen Wright in pick 74, a step better than break-even. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick100
Rnd3
Theo Johnson
They talked themselves into Theo Johnson at the Round 3 slot, and the board did not agree. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick144
Rnd5
Johnny Wilson
Somehow Johnny Wilson was still sitting there in Round 5, Pick 8, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick160
Rnd5
Tommy Eichenberg
A slide stopped in the 160th pick, with Tommy Eichenberg worth more than the price. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick163
Rnd5
Jarrian Jones
Jarrian Jones at the 163rd overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick200
Rnd6
Drake Nugent
A reach for Drake Nugent in slot 200; a little patience would have been rewarded. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
