Draft Grade — Steelers
Overall D
ValueB+ NeedB TradesF FutureB-
The Steelers let Nelson fall and pounced. Final grade: D.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Steelers shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill.

They banked enough surplus on Nelson to cover a lot of smaller sins. The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Alexander reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.

They left with quarterback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.

Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.

Pick Analysis
Pick21 Rnd1 Tyler Warren
In pick 21 they get a red-zone target to build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick45 Rnd2 Emeka Egbuka
They let Emeka Egbuka come to them and pounced at No. 45. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick46 Rnd2 Omarion Hampton
The board had Omarion Hampton higher than the Round 2 slot, and the running back fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
Pick83 Rnd3 Darius Alexander
A reach for Darius Alexander in slot 83; a little patience would have been rewarded. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick123 Rnd4 Lathan Ransom
They robbed the room for Lathan Ransom here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick151 Rnd5 Tyler Shough
They read the board right and Tyler Shough was the payoff at Round 5, Pick 13. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick156 Rnd5 O'Donnell Fortune
Fair-plus on O'Donnell Fortune, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick185 Rnd6 CJ West
CJ West at Round 6, Pick 9 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick229 Rnd7 Jack Nelson
Jack Nelson in the 229th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It adds depth where they could use a little.
