FutureA
No fireworks, just a tidy B+ for the Raiders. Boards are made to be trusted, and the Raiders shredded theirs for Hayden Conner. He came off 52 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Call it a sensible B+, earned the boring way.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped tight end, which is a strange place to end up. That is a running back worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick Analysis
Pick30
Rnd1
Jahdae Barron
The board had Jahdae Barron higher than pick No. 30, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick37
Rnd2
Kenneth Grant
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kenneth Grant at the 37th pick is the proof. It fills a real need, too.
Pick56
Rnd2
Omarion Hampton
Omarion Hampton at No. 56 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick66
Rnd3
Jaylin Noel
Good price on Jaylin Noel in pick 66, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick68
Rnd3
Carson Schwesinger
Carson Schwesinger at Round 3, Pick 4 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick85
Rnd3
Andrew Mukuba
They took Andrew Mukuba at par in slot 85, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick109
Rnd4
Will Howard
They read the board right and Will Howard was the payoff at No. 109. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick139
Rnd5
Antwaun Powell-Ryland
They talked themselves into Antwaun Powell-Ryland at the 139th overall pick, and the board did not agree. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick143
Rnd5
Jeffrey Bassa
Jeffrey Bassa in pick No. 143 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Pick160
Rnd5
Pat Bryant
Pat Bryant at Round 5, Pick 22 is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick215
Rnd6
Hayden Conner
A wild overpay on Hayden Conner in the Round 6 slot, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
