The Packers did the meat-and-potatoes work well: B-. The Packers went off the board in a big way for Isaac Guerendo, 32 picks early. Conviction is one thing; this is another. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Smith pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, wide receiver and other spots still on the board.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick Analysis
Pick25
Rnd1
Quinyon Mitchell
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a lockdown presence outside. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick41
Rnd2
Calen Bullock
Calen Bullock at the Round 2 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick57
Rnd2
Graham Barton
Graham Barton in slot 57 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick88
Rnd3
Tykee Smith
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Tykee Smith adds a safety and leaves quarterback, wide receiver and other spots untouched.
Pick91
Rnd3
Marshawn Kneeland
Marshawn Kneeland at pick No. 91 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick126
Rnd4
Dylan Laube
A real head-scratcher, Dylan Laube in pick 126 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick168
Rnd5
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson
Dadrion Taylor-Demerson at the 168th overall pick nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
Pick203
Rnd6
JD Bertrand
By-the-book stuff, JD Bertrand at No. 203 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick216
Rnd6
Jase McClellan
Jase McClellan at pick No. 216 is a conviction pick that outran the value. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick243
Rnd7
Isaac Guerendo
They reached a country mile for Isaac Guerendo at pick 243, and the board is aghast. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick251
Rnd7
Trey Taylor
Trey Taylor at the 251st pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
