Draft Grade — Cardinals
Overall D
ValueB- NeedA- TradesF FutureB-
Mendoza is the Cardinals' new face under center. Grade: D.

The trade table was where it all came apart. The Cardinals shipped out far more than they hauled back, and no amount of spin dresses up the bill. A weekend that fought the value and lost, hence the D.

So much rides on Fernando Mendoza that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They will need Rodriguez to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.

They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.

In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.

Pick Analysis
Pick1 Rnd1 Fernando Mendoza
In the 1st overall pick they get a long-term answer under center. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick34 Rnd2 Trevor Goosby
A premium they did not need to pay, Trevor Goosby a notch or two before his time. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick65 Rnd3 Jake Slaughter
Jake Slaughter in No. 65 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick94 Rnd3 Omar Cooper Jr.
A slide stopped in slot 94, with Omar Cooper Jr. worth more than the price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick104 Rnd4 Keon Sabb
A clean, defensible pick in Round 4, Pick 4 with a little surplus value in Keon Sabb. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Pick141 Rnd5 Jacob Rodriguez
A real head-scratcher, Jacob Rodriguez in pick No. 141 is miles ahead of his ranking. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick183 Rnd6 Davison Igbinosun
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Davison Igbinosun at pick 183 is the proof. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick217 Rnd7 Makhi Hughes
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Makhi Hughes. A need, and now a little less of one.
