The Bears found their guy under center in McCarthy: B-. They finally answered the question that shadows every other one. J.J. McCarthy is the Bears' quarterback, full stop. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
Every board in the league had Smith lower, and that gap is the story. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Good work on the whole, with interior defensive lineman the one box left unchecked.
Pick Analysis
Pick2
Rnd1
J.J. McCarthy
In pick 2 they get a passer to set the clock by, though the board says they badly overpaid.
Pick11
Rnd1
Rome Odunze
In the 11th pick they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. A real need, handled.
Pick72
Rnd3
Sedrick Van Pran
No drama and no debate, Sedrick Van Pran went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 8. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Pick75
Rnd3
Christian Haynes
Christian Haynes in No. 75 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick108
Rnd4
Ben Sinnott
Ben Sinnott at slot 108 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick122
Rnd4
Tykee Smith
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Tykee Smith well ahead of where he belonged. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Pick141
Rnd5
Braiden McGregor
Braiden McGregor at pick No. 141 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
