Draft Grade — Giants

Grand theft in slot 219: the Giants steal Singleton and grade out a C+.

Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Giants were there to profit. Nicholas Singleton, the No. 99 name on the board, should have been long gone before pick 219. A mixed bag that lands at C+.

They are betting Campbell proves the room right and everyone else wrong. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.

They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move. The roster is better shaped than it was, with safety chief among the fixes.

Call it incomplete, and check back in a couple of seasons.

Pick Analysis
Pick6 Rnd1 Kelvin Banks Jr.
In the 6th overall pick they get a blindside protector. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Pick34 Rnd2 JT Tuimoloau
Value said wait; JT Tuimoloau in slot 34 says they were not listening. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick65 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
A straight-up fair deal on Andrew Mukuba at pick No. 65, value and slot in agreement. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick68 Rnd3 Jaxson Dart
Jaxson Dart in the Round 3 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Pick104 Rnd4 Elic Ayomanor
Value with a capital V on Elic Ayomanor in No. 104, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick134 Rnd4 DJ Campbell
DJ Campbell at pick 134 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Pick153 Rnd5 Savion Williams
They barely believed it either: Savion Williams still on the board at Round 5, Pick 16. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick179 Rnd6 Smael Mondon Jr.
They will replay Smael Mondon Jr. at the 179th pick for years; that is how good the value is. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Pick219 Rnd7 Nicholas Singleton
Taking Nicholas Singleton in pick 219 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick245 Rnd7 Seth McLaughlin
Circle this one: Seth McLaughlin at pick No. 245 is a fall that decides a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick256 Rnd7 Will Sheppard
A real head-scratcher, Will Sheppard in slot 256 is miles ahead of his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
