Draft Grade — 49ers
Overall B
ValueB NeedB TradesC FutureA+
The 49ers let Skattebo fall and pounced. Final grade: B.

The board owed the 49ers one, and it paid up: Cam Skattebo, the No. 114 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 7 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.

The Jones Jr. pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.

It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.

Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.

Pick Analysis
Pick25 Rnd1 Luther Burden III
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick43 Rnd2 Kenneth Grant
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Kenneth Grant in the 43rd overall pick, plain and simple. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick75 Rnd3 Jordan Burch
Jordan Burch at Round 3, Pick 11 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Pick98 Rnd3 Andrew Mukuba
Somehow Andrew Mukuba was still sitting there in No. 98, and they pounced on premier safety value. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Pick99 Rnd3 Emery Jones Jr.
A wild overpay on Emery Jones Jr. in pick 99, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick111 Rnd4 Gunnar Helm
Gunnar Helm at slot 111 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick114 Rnd4 Vernon Broughton
A real head-scratcher, Vernon Broughton in pick No. 114 is miles ahead of his ranking. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Pick137 Rnd4 DeMonte Capehart
DeMonte Capehart in the 137th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Pick148 Rnd5 Jabbar Muhammad
Jabbar Muhammad in the Round 5 slot is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Pick185 Rnd6 Seth McLaughlin
Seth McLaughlin at Round 6, Pick 10 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick209 Rnd6 Cody Simon
Cody Simon in pick No. 209 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick226 Rnd7 Trey Wedig
A big swing on Trey Wedig at pick 226, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick230 Rnd7 Terrance Ferguson
Terrance Ferguson is a better player than No. 230 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick247 Rnd7 Cam Skattebo
A running back of that caliber at slot 247 is the definition of value, full stop. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Pick249 Rnd7 Raheim Sanders
Raheim Sanders at the 249th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Pick255 Rnd7 Nick Martin
Nick Martin at the 255th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the linebacker. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
