Draft Grade — Bears
Overall
D
ValueB
NeedB-

FutureB
The Bears finally solved quarterback, and it carried them to a D. Every swap seemed to tilt away from the Bears, and the value they bled adds up to real damage.
So much rides on Caleb Williams that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Hicks reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
The Odunze pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick Analysis
Pick1
Rnd1
Caleb Williams
No drama and no debate, Caleb Williams went about where he belonged in No. 1. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick14
Rnd1
Xavier Legette
In the 14th pick they get a No. 1 receiver. A clean fit for the roster.
Pick35
Rnd2
Rome Odunze
The board fumbled Rome Odunze all the way to slot 35, and they scooped it up. It fills a real need, too.
Pick74
Rnd3
Cooper Beebe
Cooper Beebe at pick 74 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick78
Rnd3
Zach Frazier
A reach for Zach Frazier in the 78th overall pick; a little patience would have been rewarded. The roster fit checks out.
Pick110
Rnd4
Jaden Hicks
Jaden Hicks at pick No. 110 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick126
Rnd4
Mohamed Kamara
By-the-book stuff, Mohamed Kamara at Round 4, Pick 26 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Pick147
Rnd5
Jaylan Ford
A reach on Jaylan Ford in the Round 5 slot; the board had better options right there. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick188
Rnd6
Dallin Holker
They paid a round early for Dallin Holker in the 188th overall pick, more than the board wanted. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Pick231
Rnd7
Jahdae Barron
They paid sticker price for Jahdae Barron in slot 231, and that is fine. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
