Mr Maauto DRAFTING FOR THEChiefs
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Chiefs
Overall
C+
ValueC-
NeedB
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Chiefs land in the muddy middle: C+. The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Chiefs reached some 44 spots for Isaiah Davis, and value like that does not grow back.
The Chiefs indulged a want in Stover while a need in tight end, quarterback and other spots stayed open. A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want.
A perfectly average weekend, for better and for worse.
Pick Analysis
Pick31
Rnd1
Trey Benson
In the Round 1 slot they get a featured back, a steep price for the projection. A real need, handled.
Pick63
Rnd2
Jaylin Simpson
Jaylin Simpson in the 63rd pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Pick94
Rnd3
Brenden Rice
They did well to land Brenden Rice in Round 3, Pick 31, just ahead of his grade. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Pick131
Rnd4
Cade Stover
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Cade Stover adds a TE-EDGE and leaves tight end, quarterback and other spots untouched.
Pick163
Rnd5
Kamal Hadden
They paid sticker price for Kamal Hadden in slot 163, and that is fine. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Pick171
Rnd5
Ajani Cornelius
They took Ajani Cornelius at par in No. 171, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick175
Rnd5
Tre Harris
A reach for Tre Harris in Round 5, Pick 39; a little patience would have been rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Pick209
Rnd6
Landon Jackson
Landon Jackson in slot 209 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Pick252
Rnd7
Isaiah Davis
Isaiah Davis in the 252nd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
