MJC0858BEAR DRAFTING FOR THEBrowns
Draft Selections
Draft Grade — Browns
Overall
B
ValueB+
NeedA-
TradesB-
FutureB-
The Browns found their guy under center in Mendoza: B. Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Trevor Goosby got past him. The Browns do not have to explain a thing at pick 207.
So much rides on Fernando Mendoza that the rest of the class almost grades on a curve behind him. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.
They will need Mendoza to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. They went 7 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick Analysis
Pick6
Rnd1
Fernando Mendoza
In the 6th pick they get a franchise quarterback, reach and all. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Pick22
Rnd1
Jordyn Tyson
In the 22nd overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Pick41
Rnd2
Spencer Fano
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, Spencer Fano in the Round 2 slot, plain and simple. A need, and now a little less of one.
Pick72
Rnd3
Carnell Tate
You do not let a wide receiver like Carnell Tate reach the 72nd pick and blink. They did not. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Pick107
Rnd4
David Bailey
They barely believed it either: David Bailey still on the board at pick No. 107. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Pick144
Rnd5
Kenyon Sadiq
Somehow Kenyon Sadiq was still sitting there in No. 144, and they pounced on premier tight end value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Pick146
Rnd5
Dillon Thieneman
They robbed the room for Dillon Thieneman here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Pick148
Rnd5
Mansoor Delane
Mansoor Delane at Round 5, Pick 8 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Pick207
Rnd6
Trevor Goosby
Trevor Goosby in slot 207 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Pick242
Rnd7
Austin Siereveld
Austin Siereveld in the 242nd overall pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
